Custom tote bags are one of the easiest holiday gift products to add to a shirt business: the same DTF transfers you press on tees work on cotton and polyester totes, and MAYA TX's tote transfer instructions are simply 300°F, 8 seconds, hot peel. For the 2026 season, test-press your blanks in early November, place your main gang sheet order by Saturday, November 14, and plan a December restock by Monday, December 7.
This guide is for Etsy and Shopify sellers, craft-market vendors, boutiques and print shops that want a low-cost gift item to sell next to their apparel, as a bundle add-on, or as a reusable gift bag for teachers, coworkers, clients and family.
Why Totes Sell Well From November Through December
The National Retail Federation forecasts that U.S. retail sales in November and December 2026 will grow 4.2% over 2025, to about $1.013 trillion (NRF holiday forecast, October 15, 2026). Gift buyers in that window look for useful, personal items at an approachable price, and a printed tote checks every box:
- Low blank cost, good margin. A canvas or cotton tote plus one transfer usually costs less than a shirt to produce.
- No sizing. One size fits everyone, so you never sell out of a medium while larges sit on the shelf.
- Two jobs in one. It is a gift and the gift bag at the same time, which buyers love for teacher, coworker and neighbor gifts.
- Easy bundles. Pair a tote with a matching shirt, hoodie or tumbler using the same artwork.
- Personalization. Names, initials, a family name and the year, or a business logo turn a basic tote into a keepsake.

Tote Designs That Sell (and Stay Trademark-Safe)
Use your own original artwork. Characters, brand names, team logos and song lyrics can get listings removed and create legal risk. Generic themes sell just as well:
- Teacher and school staff gifts: short original phrases, apples, pencils and the teacher's name.
- Monograms and names: one large initial with a small name underneath, a gift buyers can't find in a big-box store.
- Family and holiday sets: the family name and "Christmas 2026" to match your family shirt orders.
- Market and grocery totes: simple line art of produce, coffee or plants with a short original phrase.
- Small business totes: a client gift or swag bag with a company logo, printed alongside staff shirts.
Two Ways to Order Tote Transfers
Size by size: best for a few designs
Our Totebag Custom DTF Transfers come in set sizes from 4" x 4" ($1.75) to 12" x 14" ($8.35), with popular tote sizes at 8" x 8" ($4.59) and 10" x 10" ($5.59). There is no minimum order, which makes this the simple choice for samples and small personalized orders.
Gang sheet: best for volume and variety
When you are printing dozens of totes or mixing tote designs with shirt designs, a gang sheet costs much less per print. Wholesale DTF gang sheets run from 25 ft ($104.94) to 100 ft ($396), as low as $0.015 per square inch, and every wholesale gang sheet ships free with U.S. standard shipping. For shorter runs, you can build your own DTF gang sheet online in sizes from 22" x 10" to 22" x 50".
Cost per tote design: size by size vs. a 25 ft gang sheet
Estimates below assume square designs with about 0.5" spacing on a 22"-wide, 25 ft (300") wholesale sheet. Your real count depends on your layout, so use these as planning numbers.
| Design size | Size-by-size price | Approx. prints per 25 ft sheet | Approx. cost per print on the sheet |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5" x 5" | $2.50 | ~216 (4 across) | ~$0.49 |
| 7" x 7" | $3.95 | ~120 (3 across) | ~$0.87 |
| 10" x 10" | $5.59 | ~56 (2 across) | ~$1.87 |
Tip: a 10" x 10" tote design leaves a narrow strip down the side of a 22" sheet. Fill it with left-chest logos, name drops or small sleeve prints for your shirt orders so no film goes to waste.
How to Press DTF Transfers on Tote Bags
MAYA TX's published application instructions for tote transfers are: set your heat press to 300°F, press for 8 seconds and hot peel. A few tote-specific habits make the difference between a clean print and a bumpy one:
- Pre-press the tote for a few seconds to remove moisture and flatten wrinkles.
- Keep seams and handles off the platen. Slide a pressing pillow or a folded piece of thick cardboard inside the bag so the print area sits flat and above the side seams and gusset.
- Use a Teflon sheet or parchment paper over the transfer and apply even pressure across the whole design.
- Press at 300°F for 8 seconds, then peel hot.
- Test first. Press one sample on every new blank style before running the batch, since canvas weight and texture vary by supplier.
Care instructions to share with your buyers: turn inside out, wash cold, no bleach or fabric softener, no dry cleaning, and tumble dry low.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you use DTF transfers on tote bags?
Yes. DTF transfers press onto cotton, polyester and blended fabrics, which covers most canvas and cotton totes. MAYA TX's tote instructions are 300°F for 8 seconds with a hot peel. Always press one test bag on a new blank first.
What size DTF transfer is best for a tote bag?
For a standard grocery-style tote, 10" x 10" is a popular full-face size, while 7" x 7" or 8" x 8" works well on smaller gift totes. Leave about 1.5" of space from the seams and handles so the press sits flat.
When should I order tote transfers for Christmas 2026?
Place your main order by Saturday, November 14 to cover Thanksgiving week and Black Friday, then restock by Monday, December 7 for December markets and gift orders. Christmas falls on Friday, December 25, 2026.
